7 Massage Techniques that You Can Try

Massaging is the best way to get rid of joint pain, and muscle fatigue, stretch out your body limbs, and increase the movement of limbs. This is because there are multiple ways of massaging the body. Here is a list of 7 different types of massage techniques, and how they can help you improve your life.

1. Swedish style massage

This is when the massager starts working at the lower back, then moves down to the feet, and then works up the body. It is a full-body massage that uses friction and long stroke movements to improve circulation, relieve tension, and reduce anxiety and stress in the body.

2. Effleurage

This message type uses slight, short strokes all over the body. It uses light pressure to increase blood circulation to the heart, and stimulate the lymphatic system, as strokes are angled upwards towards the lymph nodes. This is a very therapeutic massage and reduces a great tension in the body.

3. Petrissage

This is a kneading technique where tissue and skin are squeezed and gripped to relieve muscle tension. It is a great method for muscle recovery, stretching, and loosening muscle fibers to increase the range of movement. This is because capillarization and vasodilation in the blood flow are stimulated, which increases the number of blood cells in circulation.

4. Compression

This is when extensive pressure is put onto a body part where tension needs to be relieved. There are very long, slow movements that stimulate the deeper muscle in the body. It is the opposite of kneading, where the ball of the hand is used to flatten into the targetted body muscle.

5. Tapotement

This is a movement that is very common for trainers to recommend to athletes after their workout. The very short, hard, successive movements that are repetitively brought down on the body and work to rejuvenate the muscles and provide muscle function back to them. It is a very repetitive movement that is sequenced to provide the most relaxation on a body part.

6. Vibration

The strokes used in vibration massage shake, vibrate and jostle the bodily tissue. This is very relaxing and soothes (or stimulates) your body depending on where the massage is focused. It is very popular when lower back and abdomen tension needs to be released.

7. Percussion

Percussion movements are very rapid, small movements delivered on targeted areas of the body. They are laid down in repeated, even strokes. This is used mostly for relaxing the back, neck, and shoulders, and is very beneficial to releasing pent-up stress in these body parts.

All of these methods are available at Bonafide Acupuncture based on your needs and wants. They are proven to help rejuvenate muscles – or even just as a de-stressor for the body and mind.
